i just got off the phone with my mum.
she said that a 2nd cousin, who works in new york bethel, is coming to canada bethel for about three months, as part of the move of their largest print press to bethel canada.
What about all the brothers and sisters that have spent all their lives in Bethel and now have to get out and find real jobs? Will they be afforded retraining skills to help find new jobs? What if they are too old? What type of pensions will they have to support them with? I remember someone saying how Ray Franz after 50 or 60 years in the full time service work was given a few thousand dollars when he was kicked out of bethel.

Thanks for your response. You made some interesting points but I can't figure out why they didn't get something closer. I am sure they could have arranged for a smaller facility some where locally instead of having to make a 4 hour drive. Most of the Dubs I know are on fixed incomes and with the price of gas etc. it is a major expense for them. I think you answered my question about the society trying to pass down the costs to the rank and file members to absorb instead of trying to recover the costs through contributions.

Just a question or comment about the 2004 District Conventions. Is there a move by the WT society to have the District Conventions in smaller venues?? Or are they trying to lower their costs? Locally the society has rented the same building for the last 30+ years but this year they decided that it was too much of a cost so they rented a stadium out of town. A 4 hour drive so one is almost forced to rent a hotel room for 3 nights. Which will also mean they have to have 5 District Conventions over a 5 week period where it used to only be a one District Convention. Seems to me that in their infinite wisdom to save a bit of money they are putting more burdens on the rank and file members to absorb the costs. I am wondering if maybe they don't have the contributions coming in so they have to resort to cheaper alternative facilities. Anyone else have any further information? Are they doing this in other cities?

I for one am not celebrating his death. My grandmother died of Alzheimer's, so appreciate what his family is going through but if I don't agree with what he was as a man I am not going to start praising him now. I don't like him because I found him to be a phoney, shallow minded, uncompassionate and insincere person. He, like most politicians, was only out for his own gains. I think we maybe giving him too much created for things that were out of his control. His image was a creation of the Republican PR people and the media bought into it.

This is going to piss off a lot of Calgary fans but I don't like Calgary's clutch and grab style of hockey. It only goes to slow the game down and make it boring. I also resent being told to be a good Canadian I have to pull for Calgary. It wasn't that Calgary was that good but that they had a hot goalie and played the trap well by slowing the game down. Until the NHL realizes this style of low scoring, slow hockey is not going to sell to the lucrative American TV market, we will see other teams start to employ this brand of hockey. I predict that Calgary will go like the other Cinderella teams in the past i.e. Washington, Carolina, Anaheim and have trouble even making the playoffs next year. Having said all that I believe the best team won the cup.

So true, he was a mediocre actor that stared in B movies. A intellectually inferior President with no substance and an invention of the media and Republican PR people. I always felt he was insincere with that phony pasted on smile. I think he was not as highly regarded internationally than he was at home. Like someone else mentioned, "now we're gonna have to be inundated with a bunch of recycled Reaganomic Republican reverent bullshit." I remember the 1969 International Assembly at Vancouver BC. It was at Empire Stadium and there was an amusement park next door. About halfway through the assembly, which I believe was 8 days long, a sister died taking a short cut across the tracks of the junior roller-coaster. I felt just awful about it, but we kids were given the stern warning by our elders not to be risking our lives by taking foolish chances. This sister was wrong for having risked her life and might not even be resurrected, because Jehovah might not resurrect those who foolishly risk His precious gift of life.

I was at that DC too and I remember that incident. I also seem to think she did not die right away and had to be taken to the hospital where we were told she or her family refused a blood transfusion. I don't know if by her taking the blood would have saved her life but it makes one wonder. Anyway the dubs quickly used that for propaganda as to how this sister died faithfully. However this could be another JW urban legend.

the main topic was this incident and how shocked they were that the meeting went on as though nothing had happened, and that some JWs actually tried to place magazines with the crew as they were tending to the victim!
If it wasn't for the fact that I was one of those mindless Jdubs, I wouldn't believe this story. However I could just picture some elder peddling the mags well the paramedics were trying to revive this individual and I am also sure that those same brothers reported the time. Sounds like something my anal ex brother in law would do .
